The School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (SFOS) at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) has several openings for Masters and PhD
students in Physical Oceanography. The ideal candidate will be
self-motivated with a background in physics, mathematics, engineering,
or environmental science with strong computer skills. The successful
applicants can work with Dr. Harper Simmons on active research
programs in the Arctic Ocean or South China Sea. Incoming students
will have the flexibility to design projects that fit their
interests. Areas of study might include internal waves, ocean stirring
and mixing, or the response of the ice-ocean system to atmospheric
storms. Annual stipend will be provided at $27,700 USD for Masters
students and $33,500 USD for PhD students with tuition and health care
coverage provided.
Application deadline is Oct. 15 for Spring semester, or June 1 for
Fall. International applicant deadline for Fall is February 1. Please
